Since September 2021, countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) have had the obligation to apply for a K-ETA online before taking a flight or boat to South Korea. Some countries are designated as "free-visa countries". Their citizens do not need a visa. However, they are also required to apply for a K-ETA online.
The South Korea Electronic Travel Authorization ( Korea Electronic Travel Authorization / K-ETA ) is an online electronic travel authorization that allows citizens of eligible countries to enter Korean soil for the following reasons: Tourism, visiting relatives, an event, a meeting or for professional reasons.
Since April 2023, 22 nationalities(including the French and Belgians) have been exempt from K-ETA until 2025. However, obtaining this document in advance will save you time when you arrive.

For travel to South Korea, around 112 nationalities are exempt from visa requirements under normal circumstances (excluding Covid). However, citizens wishing to travel to South Korea are required to apply for an electronic travel authorisation, known as K-ETA.
The K-ETA is valid three years for tourist, business or event stays of between 30 and 90 days. There is no limit on the number of stays during the validity of the K-ETA. This can be requested here for an amount of7 € consular fee per traveller, excluding service. We advise you to apply for K-ETA at least 3 days before you leave for South Korea.
When should you travel to South Korea?
The ideal times to visit Korea are autumn and spring. Winter is quite cold, so not recommended. Summer should be avoided, as this is the monsoon period, when it rains very often.
Places to visit in South Korea
The Land of the Morning Calm has a lot to offer. It will delight alllovers of architecture, new technologies, pop culture, art or nature! Obviously, a must-visit in South Korea is its capital: Seoul. The third most populous megalopolis, you'll find a commercial district that's very well known thanks to the song that became famous: Gangnam. If you prefer to escape the hustle and bustle of Seoul's busy districts, Jeju Island will delight nature lovers. This island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, came into being following the eruption of Mount Hallasan, Korea's highest peak. What's more, Jeu's subtropical climate is pleasant all year round! For history buffs, visiting the city of Gyeongju will allow you to immerse yourself in Korean culture. Are you a sportsman at heart? A hike in Seoraksan Park, considered to be the most beautiful in the country, is a must.
