K-ETA South Korea: what documents do I need to provide?

Since 1 September 2021, the South Korean government has allowed French and European Union nationals to enter the country without a visa. Therefore, in the absence of a visa, Europeans wishing to travel to South Korea must have a K-ETA South Korea. However, access to South Korea with the K-ETA is possible if you are travelling as a tourist or for a short visit to your family. So what documents do you need to provide to obtain a South Korean K-ETA? Focus on!

A passport

Before you can obtain your South Korean K-ETA, you must provide certain essential documents. These include passport. This is an important document, especially as in some cases it determines the length of your stay in South Korea. To obtain a K-ETA, we recommend that you provide a valid passport. Knowing that a K-ETA is valid for two yearsSo you can use your passport to stay freely in South Korea.

ℹ️ Please note that if your passport expires within 2 years, your K-ETA will be valid until your current passport expires. You will need to apply for a new passport.

It is also your responsibility to convert the information on your passport into a digital version. To do this, you should make a scanned colour photocopy of the document. Above all, the copy must be of good quality so that the information on it can be quickly deciphered.

The part of the passport that will be photocopied is that relating to the applicant's biometric data. This page shows your photo and personal details such as your :

  • full name,
  • nationality,
  • date and place of birth,
  • gender

In addition to your personal details, this page also contains information relating to the passport, such as its registration number and date of acquisition and expiry.

A recent passport photo

In addition to your passport, you will also need to provide a copy of a recent passport photo. The photo must be taken in colour on a neutral or white background and without any shadows. The photo must show your full face from the hairline to below the chin. It is forbidden to wear glasses in the photo. We also recommend that you have your eyes open when taking your identity photo.

It is important to emphasise the legibility of the photo. It must be of high quality so that the applicant can be quickly identified.

The documents concern one of the stages in obtaining a K-ETA. This step is called the document preparation phase. When you provide the documents, you must then provide certain additional information before you can obtain your K-ETA. This information is provided on a form that you will complete online.

Information required for the acquisition of a K-ETA South Korea

The information required is formulated as questions in a form which you will answer after providing the requested documents. Here is a list of the questions you will be asked online when applying for a K-ETA on the website:

  • what is your profession?
  • Have you ever visited South Korea?
  • Are you travelling for tourism, training, work, a religious or sporting event?
  • Where will you be staying during your stay in South Korea?
  • What is the Korean telephone number of your local accommodation provider?
  • All applicants from Spanish-speaking countries are also required to answer a series of questions about employment and salary.

These are the questions you will be asked on the form. The documents required to obtain a South Korean K-ETA are a valid passport and a recent passport photograph. Please note that once you have submitted your application, you will need to wait between 24 and 72 hours for the authorities to get back to you.
