Nationals of several countries around the world, including Europe, can travel to South Korea without a visa, as tourists. However, from September 1, they will have to take an additional step: apply for a K-ETA. To do this, they must visit the official website to complete the necessary formalities. French nationals can access the site in French, but how do they go about it?
K-ETA: What do you need to know?
Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA): this is the name of South Korea's electronic travel authorisation. This document should allow you to visit South Korea for short stays of up to 90 days. This length of stay may vary from one country to another. For example, some nations are only allowed to stay for 30 days..
It should be added that the document is only valid for two years or less, if your passport expires before then. As a reminder, applying for a K-ETA will cost you KRW 10,000, i.e. on average 7 €.
How do I apply for electronic authorisation on the official website?
K-ETA authorisation is very simple to obtain. You apply online by filling in a form and completing a few other necessary steps.
The first step, of course, is to prepare your application. It should include a scanned, high-quality colour copy of your passport. You will also need a scanned passport photo in colour. What's more, the photo must be taken against a completely white background with no shadows.
Then go to the official website www.k-eta.go.kr and fill in the request form. Your results will be sent to you within 24 hours of your request, either directly on the website or by email.
How can I get the k-eta.go.kr website in French?
Applications for K-ETA must be made directly on the official website or on the official application set up by the authorities. As a reminder, the content of the www.k-eta.go.kr website is mainly presented in English or South Korean. If you are not perfectly fluent, it will be useful to have your site in French, to avoid errors that could result in your application being rejected.
Fortunately, the process is very simple on a recent browser like Google Chrome. Once you are connected to the web page, click on Translate at the top of the page. You will then see other languages appear. Just click on the French flag to see your site displayed in French. There are also other ways of having the site in French: using extensions.
